The number of Scholarships offered for allied health clinical placements in rural areas in Australia will be doubled as a result of increased demand over the last years, according to the Australian Labour. Rudd government has promised to establish a locum scheme in order to support 1,000 allied health workers over the next decade and to double the number of scholarships offered in order to go to these areas.
The government wants to improve the retention of allied health professionals in the rural areas of Australia and doubling the number of scholarship is one way of reaching the goal. Locum arrangements, which already exist for doctors, will also be available for allied health professionals. Additionally, the government will invest $11.8 million to further support allied health professionals in rural areas of Australia. The Allied Health Clinical Placement Scholarship Scheme has been extremely popular among students, and hopefully even more students will grab the opportunity to get some fantastic training and experience from the regional and rural centres around Australia.
