Colorectal cancer, also known as bowel cancer, is one of the most common forms of cancer in Australia. Cancer Council of Australia has estimated that 114, 000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in during 2010, and more than 4160 people die of colorectal cancer each year, which equivalents approximately 80 death cases per week. Colorectal cancer is Australia’s second biggest cancer killer after lung cancer.
The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program is available to Australians turning 50, 55, or 60 before December 2010. This means five million Australians aged over 50 at the risk of cancer miss out on this life-saving program! The campaign “Get behind Bowel Screening” aims at making the screening available for more people. On their website you can email your local MP to increase the support for national bowel cancer screening.
